Don Giovanni

Opera Holland Park

Nominated for the BroadwayWorld UK award for Outstanding Achievement in a New Opera Production

this show flows in a torrent of hot headed emotions…
4/5 Stars Richard Morrison The Times

Oliver Platt’s production overcomes space and budget limitations…it also circumvents some of the more far fetched narrative twists: there is credibility here that has eluded many directors. In this setting it’s easy to buy into the plot’s hedonism, and to understand why characters always happen to show up in the same place at the same time. It’s easy to believe in the class tensions…and it’s easy to seduced by Platt’s comedy…

Fine singing allied to Irish’s scenic resourcefulness and Platt’s directorial wit…make this a Don Giovanni to cherish.
4/5 Stars Mark Valencia What’sOnStage

This is an innovative and well thought-out concept, delivered well in terms of the more tricky parts of the opera to stage convincingly, most notably the end of the first Act, and the changes of cloaks at the start of the second. Oliver Platt’s direction is both inventive and cogent.
4/5 Stars Alexander Campbell Classical Source

Oliver Platt’s production for Holland Park not only succeeds in retaining the class system involved, but by being extremely innovative, delineates it to the full…Although not extreme, the production seems more hard hitting than most…
